Canadian households are responsible for approximately 47% of all food waste, with an average family throwing away $1,766 worth of food each year.
Environmental Impact

The environmental impact of food waste is significant, as it contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion. Approximately 2.2 megatonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions result from food waste in Canada each year.

Potential Savings The average Canadian household could save over $1,100 annually by reducing food waste and optimizing food preservation and storage practices.

 A study conducted by the Conference Board of Canada found that if Canadians increased their consumption of local and seasonal foods by just 5%, it could result in a $3.3 billion boost to Canada’s economy and create thousands of jobs.
